JBL Charge 5 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker – My Hands-On Review

After spending some time with the JBL Charge 5, I can confidently say this speaker packs a punch in terms of sound, durability, and battery life. Whether you're taking it to the beach, poolside, or just using it indoors, this rugged and powerful Bluetooth speaker delivers. Here’s my personal experience with it

Design & Build Quality

Right out of the box, the JBL Charge 5 feels sturdy and premium. The rubberized edges and fabric grille make it shock-resistant, so I wasn’t worried about minor drops or bumps. The IP67 rating means it’s waterproof and dustproof, and I actually tested it by dunking it in water—it floats and keeps playing like nothing happened! Perfect for pool parties or outdoor adventures.

Sound Quality – Loud & Punchy

I was seriously impressed with the sound quality. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Bass: Deep and punchy, even at high volumes. You can feel the beats without distortion.
  • Mids: Vocals and instruments are clear, making it great for all genres.
  • Highs: Crisp and detailed, though they can get slightly sharp at max volume.

I tested it with different music styles—hip-hop, rock, EDM, and acoustic—and it handled everything really well. The JBL Bass Radiator does an excellent job of delivering rich and deep bass, making it ideal for outdoor settings.

Battery Life – Long-Lasting Performance

JBL claims up to 20 hours of battery life, and in my testing, I got around 18-19 hours at 70% volume—which is more than enough for a full day of music. The power bank feature is a game-changer too! I was able to charge my phone while playing music, which is super useful during long trips.

Bluetooth & Connectivity

Pairing was instant and seamless thanks to Bluetooth 5.1. The range is solid—I could walk over 30 feet away without any signal drops. The PartyBoost feature lets you connect multiple JBL speakers, and I tried it with a friend’s JBL Flip 6—it made a huge difference in sound, creating a true stereo experience.

Durability – Built for Adventure

I took it camping, to the beach, and even in the shower, and it handled everything like a champ. The rubberized bottom keeps it stable on most surfaces, and even when it got wet or dusty, a quick wipe was all it needed.

What I Loved:

Loud and deep bass with clear mids and highs

Waterproof & dustproof (IP67 rating)

Massive 20-hour battery life + power bank feature

Strong Bluetooth 5.1 connection

PartyBoost lets you connect multiple JBL speakers

What Could Be Improved:

No AUX input – Bluetooth only

No built-in voice assistant support (Google Assistant/Siri)

Highs can be sharp at max volume

Final Verdict

If you want a powerful, durable, and long-lasting Bluetooth speaker, the JBL Charge 5 is a top-tier choice. The rugged build, strong bass, and waterproof design make it perfect for outdoor adventures, and the power bank feature is just a bonus.

For parties, beach trips, or even just home use, this speaker delivers amazing sound and battery life for the price. It’s one of the best mid-sized portable speakers I’ve tried.
